How much is your used handbag worth: how a valuation works
The question almost always comes in the same form: how much will you give me for this bag? The answer depends on four things, and none of them is the price you paid.
1. Model and Material
Not all models from the same brand perform equally in the pre-owned market. Some remain in demand for years, while others go out of circulation when the collection ends. The material and finish also matter: a coated canvas and a light-colored leather with the same wear will not yield the same result, because signs of wear are more visible and harder to restore on the latter.
2. Actual Condition
This is the most impactful factor. We look at the corners, which are where a bag typically shows wear first, the base of the handles, the interior, the hardware, and the integrity of the shape. A stained interior or worn corners have an impact, and we state this openly when we make an offer.
The bag doesn't have to be perfect. We just need to know its exact condition, because that's what determines the resale price and, consequently, the amount we can offer you.
3. What You Still Have
Box, dust bag, tags, lock with keys, shoulder strap, purchase receipt: the presence of original accessories changes the valuation, because it changes the perceived value for the next buyer.
If you no longer have anything, the bag is still salable; the offer will simply reflect that.
4. Current Demand
A valuation is not a fixed price list. It also depends on how many similar items we already have in the store and what customers are asking for at that time. The same model can have a different value a few months later.
How to Proceed
The process is short and doesn't commit you to anything.
First step: Send us photos on WhatsApp at 331 203 9599. We need photos of the entire bag, front and back, the corners, the interior, the hardware, and any labels. If you have the box and accessories, photograph those too.
Second step: We will make you an offer. If you're not convinced, it ends there, with no cost to you.
Third step: If we agree, we will pick up the item at our expense.
Fourth step: Payment is made after the appraisal, i.e., after we have verified in person that the bag matches the photos and what you told us.
Why the appraisal comes after and not before
A lot can be seen from photos, but not everything: an odor, a loose seam, or hardware that is duller than expected can only be noticed with the bag in hand. The initial offer is therefore an estimate based on what you show us, and it becomes final when the item arrives. If there is a substantial difference, we will discuss it before finalizing.
If you prefer in person
You can bring it to our store at Via A. Casati 167 in Arcore. We will look at it together and give you the valuation while you are there.
